North East England takes in four historic counties, each with its own character and its own appeal for campers and caravanners. Whether you are drawn to a rugged coastline, quiet inland valleys or a short break near a city, the region offers plenty of choice.

Cleveland

A compact area centred on Teesside and the mouth of the River Tees, sitting between the North York Moors and the coast. It suits campers who want easy access to both moorland and seaside.

County Durham

Stretching from the Durham coast across to the Pennines, the county combines former mining villages, open fell country and the historic city of Durham. Inland sites tend to be quiet and rural, while the coast offers its own selection.

Northumberland

England’s northernmost county, bordering Scotland. It is known for long, sparsely populated beaches, the Cheviot Hills and Hadrian’s Wall. Distances between towns are greater here, so it rewards those happy to travel a little further for peace and space.

Tyne & Wear

The most urbanised part of the region, built around Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, Sunderland and the surrounding towns. Sites here work well as a base for city visits, with the coast and countryside within reach.
