What the region offers
The eastern counties, including Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, are largely low-lying and known for wide skies, waterways and coastline. Further west, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire take in hill country and national park landscapes, while Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire are shaped by rivers and rural farmland. The West Midlands brings a more urban edge, with sites within reach of major towns and cities.
Rutland, though small, is a county in its own right and sits at the heart of the region around its reservoir. Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Bedfordshire fill in the ground between, each with a mix of countryside, historic towns and easy road links.
Planning a trip
Campers travelling through Central England can generally expect a good spread of campsites, caravan parks and touring sites, from small rural pitches to larger parks with facilities on site. It is worth checking opening dates and booking ahead during peak periods, particularly in the more popular areas such as the Derbyshire Peak District, the Norfolk coast and the Cotswolds.
Distances between counties are modest, so it is quite feasible to combine two or three areas in a single trip and use one site as a base for exploring the next.
