Golden Valley Caravan and Camping Park sits in the small hamlet of Golden Valley, alongside the Cromford Canal in Amber Valley, at the heart of Derbyshire. The park occupies 26 acres of historic woodland that once supported a thriving local industry of coal mining, iron foundries and canal work.

Around the area

Amber Valley mixes quiet villages with busy market towns, set among some of the finest scenery in the region. Historic houses and heritage sites are within easy reach, as are walks, factory shopping and the Midland Railway Centre, where steam trains are a short walk away and half-price admission is available. Britain Pit Farm is also nearby.

Pitches and camping

The secluded woodland setting includes 24 super pitches for motorhomes and caravans. Each has its own independent water supply, electric hook-up point and mains drainage, set in spacious bays in selected areas of the woodland. There is ample room for tents among the trees as well.

Facilities on site

The site offers an independent toilet and shower block, a laundry room, a Jacuzzi, a gym, a children’s play room, an outdoor play area, a cafe, a bar and a wildlife pond.

The reception building faces you as you arrive. It has been designed and built in a mock log cabin style to complement the surrounding woodland, and it is where staff can help with any queries or assistance during your stay. The bar occupies the first floor of the reception building, a pine-clad space with a fully working bar and refreshment area where you can relax.

The toilet block, within the caravan area, has been built to a high standard and includes separate male, female and disabled toilet and shower facilities.

The pond and play area

A large, securely fenced pond is a focal point for relaxing, with the fencing in place to keep children away from the water’s edge. It holds carp and attracts a range of wildlife, including kingfishers, dragonflies and ducks.

The outdoor children’s play area is set centrally within the park, so you can keep an eye on children from your caravan. It includes slides, swings, walkways, poles and a wendy house, with benches and chairs for adults to sit and relax nearby. A speaking penguin, Pingu, is on hand to thank children for using the bins.

The cafe

The cafe has plenty of indoor tables and a fully working kitchen, and overlooks the pond and woodland. It is a convenient stop for a drink or lunch after a morning spent exploring the historic woodland.
