A family-run park since 1975

Callow Top was established in 1975 by Alan and Jill Palmer, who remain the proprietors and are still closely involved in running the site. They are helped by their grown-up children, Kay and Rob, park general manager Sue, and their partners. Three generations of the family work on the park, a setup that goes some way to explaining the homely atmosphere that regulars comment on.

Location and views

The park occupies an elevated position in the Derbyshire countryside, with sweeping views across the Peak District National Park. It is also easy to reach, and the flat ground is sheltered by a perimeter of tall hedgerows that are home to a variety of bird life.

Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Buxton are all within easy reach, making Callow Top a practical base for a caravan or camping holiday in the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Peak District.

Awards and recognition

Callow Top has been a Practical Caravan Top 100 site for the last four years and was named East Midlands Holiday Park of the Year in 2009.

On-site facilities

The park aims to cover everything needed for a fun-filled family holiday on site, while still being close to the area’s major attractions. Guests who would rather not venture out can happily spend their whole stay on the park.

Things to do

There are plenty of walks nearby, and a swimming pool, pool table and table tennis for anyone after something more energetic. For a quieter moment, guests can take a dip in the pool or sit by the park’s well-stocked fishing lake with a pint from the on-site brewery.

Pitches

The site welcomes caravans, tents, trailer tents, motorhomes and campervans, with amenities on the doorstep to keep a Peak District camping holiday comfortable. Pitches are available as hardstanding with electric hook-up or as grass pitches without.

Some hardstanding pitches are separated by conifer hedges for extra privacy. A number of larger hardstanding pitches suit motorhomes up to 30ft, larger twin-axle caravans, or caravans with bedroom annexes on the awning; ask at the time of booking if a larger pitch is needed. All hardstanding pitches have a small area of grass to one side for pegging the edge of an awning, though pegging may be needed into the hardstanding at the front and back of the awning. Heavy-duty rock pegs are required and can be bought from the shop.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome on site as long as they are kept on a lead at all times. They are not allowed in the Callow Inn, Arnold’s Cafe Bar, the Callow Top shop, the swimming pool area or the fishing lake and nature reserve.
